Hanoi

Artsy, laid-back Hanoi feels much sleepier than most capital cities, though the surging numbers of scooters and cars that have displaced the once ubiquitous bike have given the streets a less serene feel these days. When the traffic becomes too much, de-camp for the countryside. To the south and east runs a belt of mesmerising karst scenery, with stunning rock pinnacles rising out of rice paddy and ocean waters alike.
